“Anything worth having is worth working for.” This maxim applies to your marriage and to your Marriage Encounter Weekend. This Weekend gives couples time to learn and practice a whole new way to communicate about both the small and the “big” things in their relationship. Expect to work to make your most important human relationship successful and happy. And make this Weekend a priority for your relationship by committing to staying the full time to enjoy every second of this too-short respite from the many demands – jobs, kids, chores, in-laws, interests, and activities – on your daily life. You won’t regret it!
Couples arrive at the designated hotel on Friday evening, about 7:00 p.m., and leave on Sunday afternoon, about 4:00 p.m. The Weekend program begins Friday evening – promptly at 8:00 p.m. – after each couple has checked in and is unpacked. No meal is provided on Friday. (We encourage you, though, to bring your own snacks and beverages to keep in your room or bring with you to the Weekend presentations for your comfort.)
This program is designed to be presented to couples in a group setting with opportunities following each presentation for couples to privately work together practicing the new communication tools. Meals are catered and provided in a group setting in order to maintain the program’s time schedule.
One presentation about communicating feelings is given on Friday evening starting at 8:00 pm. Following this presentation, couples will have private time alone for reflection and discussion.
Saturday is a full day of presentations interspersed with couples privately using the new communication tools being taught. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all provided in a group setting. A late afternoon break for couples is included. Presentations end at approximately 9:00 pm on Saturday evening. Some of the topics covered include exploring personality styles, dealing with the stresses in the world around us, what it means to really listen, and understanding God’s desire for marriage.
Presentations are given Sunday morning and afternoon, again with couples privately using the new communication tools taught to them on Saturday to be able to always keep their relationship a priority. Breakfast and lunch are provided in a group setting. Sunday afternoon presentations teach couples how to continue using their new communication tools to maintain their improved communication skills in their relationship going forward.
