Join a Michigan Journey Group!

The journey you have started can easily be continued after you return home by meeting regularly with Encountered Couples. Throughout Michigan there are Journey Groups of Encountered Couples who get together on a regular basis. Anyone who dialogues alone does not dialogue very long. We need each other’s support to continue this joyful married lifestyle! We encourage you to attend a Journey Group near you.

Journey Groups are a place to share our dreams, gain encouragement to continue our dialogue, receive support and prayers from each other, and become closer as a married couple. We usually meet in the homes of Encountered Couples once a month for continued growth in our relationships. All you have to do to participate is bring your dialogue notebooks and name tags! We always have a short presentation followed by a 10 & 10 and an open sharing question. Snacks and beverages are served, so if you wish, please bring your favorite snack to share!

History of Lutheran Marriage Encounter in Michigan

Lutheran Marriage Encounter came to the Michigan area because of the vision and dreams of several encountered couples in the Detroit area. These couples had experienced a Catholic Weekend and saw the vision of being able to share the Weekend in a Lutheran setting.

They worked tirelessly to carry out all the details to make their first Weekend a reality. Some of them drove great distances to regularly attend meetings during the formative stages. Presenting couples came from all over the U.S. and Ontario and worked together to nurture this seed to fruition.

The first Weekend was held in suburban Detroit in July of 1977. All early weekends were held in the Detroit area.  In 1980 the first “out state” Weekend was held in Saginaw. Since then several Weekends a year have been held throughout Michigan in places like Benton Harbor, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Kalamazoo, Traverse City and Port Huron.

Weekends will continue to be presented throughout Michigan as the Lord blesses this ministry. We are here because of the dreams and dedication of those pioneer couples. Those couples who cared so many years ago continue to be a blessing to us right here today.
